Balochistan being the largest province of Pakistan covers over 347,185 square Kilometers, out of which 5.9% area is cultivated. Approximately 85% of the population lives in rural areas and mainly depends on agriculture and livestock. The total cropped area of Balochistan is 3.8% which produces 82% apples, 69% peaches, 97.6% grapes, 82% pomegranates, 64% dates, 93.5% almonds and 49% plums. People of Balochistan depend on Natural water resources such as rainfall, streams rivers and kareez.

NPIWC-II is aiming to improve the water availability situation in Balochistan to bring more area into irrigated land and increase agriculture. The construction of water storage tanks is a key factor of NPIWC-II in Balochistan to store water along with the improvement of watercourses and provision of laser land levelers.
