One of the main problem AJK is facing today is water resources. There is a lack of water shortage in AJ&K and also some political issues on water resources. Majority of the population depends on ground water and the water that supply limited available. The total cultivated area of AJK is 196,798 hectares and about 14.7 % is its total territory. The major crops grown in AJK are maize, wheat, rice and millet while minor crops include grams, pulses, oil-seeds and vegetables. Maize being one of the dominant cereals of AJK is grown in a wide range.
